Two Great Coffee Recipes: Bulletproof Coffee & Dirty Chai Latte

Coffee doesn’t have to be a rushed, sugar-loaded habit you barely taste on the way out the door. Made well, with good beans and a bit of intention, it can be a genuine ritual — one that fuels you properly instead of spiking you and dropping you an hour later. Here are two of our favourite ways to turn your morning cup into something a little more special: a creamy, energy-sustaining Bulletproof Coffee, and a warmly spiced Dirty Chai Latte.

Why the Coffee You Start With Matters

Both of these recipes only work as well as the coffee underneath them. Cheap, over-roasted or poorly stored beans bring bitterness and a rough edge that no amount of butter or spice can mask. Start with a quality roast and both drinks come together properly balanced — rich, smooth, and worth slowing down for.

1. Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof coffee swaps your usual milk splash for grass-fed butter and MCT oil, blended until frothy. The fats slow the release of caffeine into your bloodstream, which means a steadier lift and less of the jittery crash that comes with a quick black coffee on an empty stomach. It’s become a favourite among the real-food crowd for exactly that reason — it turns your morning coffee into a source of sustained, clean energy rather than just a quick hit.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup freshly brewed Deep Roast Coffee (Dark Roast)
  • 1–2 tbsp grass-fed butter or ghee
  • 1 tbsp MCT oil or coconut oil
  • Optional: a pinch of cinnamon or a dash of vanilla

Method

  1. Brew a strong cup of Deep Roast Coffee — a French press or moka pot works particularly well here.
  2. Add the hot coffee, butter (or ghee), and MCT oil to a blender.
  3. Blend for 20–30 seconds until the top turns frothy and the colour lightens to a creamy caramel.
  4. Pour and drink immediately while it’s still frothy on top.

2. Dirty Chai Latte

A dirty chai takes the warming, spiced comfort of a traditional chai and adds a shot of real coffee for a proper morning kick. It’s the best of both worlds — the depth and gentle heat of the spices, with enough caffeine to actually get you moving.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk of choice (dairy, oat or coconut all work well)
  • 1 chai tea bag, or 1 tsp loose chai spice blend (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper, star anise)
  • 1 shot freshly brewed Velvet Cocoa Coffee or Rich Hazelnut Coffee Pods
  • Raw honey or maple syrup, to taste

Method

  1. Gently heat the milk in a small saucepan with the chai tea bag or spice blend until steaming (don’t let it boil).
  2. Let the spices steep for 3–4 minutes, then strain if using loose spices.
  3. Brew your shot of coffee — Velvet Cocoa brings a soft, chocolatey depth, while Rich Hazelnut adds a sweeter, nuttier edge.
  4. Combine the spiced milk and coffee shot, froth if you like, and sweeten with a little honey or maple syrup.

Make It a Habit, Not a Rush

Both of these take a couple of extra minutes over instant coffee — and that’s rather the point. A slower, more intentional morning ritual is a small habit that sets the tone for the rest of the day. That’s the whole idea behind Life Habits Co: simple, repeatable rituals that fit into a real life and actually make it better. Shop our coffee range and find your new morning ritual.
